Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), Los Angeles Valley College and the Los Angeles Community College District will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.

Employment

Los Angeles Valley College does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Effective Communication

Los Angeles Valley College will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in College programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures

ADA Coordinator

Sarah Song has been designated to coordinate compliance with the non-discrimination requirements contained in the Department of Justice regulations implementing Subtitle A of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. 12131), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability by public agencies and Section 504 of the Rehabilitations Act as well as California disability laws and regulations.

ADA Compliance

Los Angeles Valley College is committed to creating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive educational and working environment for people of all abilities. Los Angeles Valley College remains committed to the principles of equal access and opportunity for individuals with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAAA), and applicable sections of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Employment Related Matters

The Human Resources Office will coordinate with the District’s ADA Compliance Administrator to ensure that all supervisors and managers attend training on the provisions of the ADA.

Campus Access

Los Angeles Valley College's Facilities Office has been designated to coordinate compliance with ADA physical access requirements. The office maintains the Los Angeles Valley College’s Transition Plan and has stewardship of campus data on the physical accessibility of building interiors and paths of travel. It handles inquiries and provides access solutions to existing rooms, meeting or event places and sports arenas, facilities and paths of travel, handles requests for accommodations and complaints about access, and coordinates with Los Angeles Valley College's Enterprise Office to provide construction notices. The office also provides strategies for the safety of persons with disabilities during evacuation or emergency.
